What
The course will cover the basics of third molar surgery with emphasis on patient selection, flap design, surgical technique (including troughing, sectioning and closure), and management of complications.
During the first day of the course, Dr. Mobini’s lecture will cover all aspects of third molar surgery.
During the second day of the course, clinicians will be provided the opportunity of practicing on surgical models to practice principles of flap design, troughing, sectioning, elevation and primary closure. The applicants will also be able to observe at least 5 cases of live surgery during this module.
Third day of the course is the complete hands on patient experience. For clinician to partake in this module, the following need to be done prior to the surgery date
A patient should be referred by the clinician to Toronto Oral & Facial Surgery for removal of their third molars. (Ideal candidate would be someone between ages of 17-22 and with 4 third molar teeth). This way the clinician would have the opportunity to practice on removing a mandibular and maxillary third molar.
Patient should schedule for the removal of their third molars on the date of module (Our practice coordinators will arrange for this and will notify the clinician once their patient has been scheduled).
The surgery will be performed under general anesthesia. During the first half of surgery, Dr. Mobini will perform surgery for removal of third molar teeth on his side. During this time, the clinician would be assisting and observing the surgical procedure. During the second half the surgery, the clinician will be performing the surgery on their side and Dr. Mobini will assist and guide the clinician in performing the surgery.
It is important to note that if a patient is not referred for the hands on module portion of the course, the clinician would not be able to partake in this activity.
How Much
Tuition for the course is $2,500, which covers all course material, lectures, hands on modules and meals.
